From us at WordPress to you in the States: Happy Thanksgiving! Today, we’ll be passing the turkey and stuffing, and sharing what we’re thankful for. Welcome to Troop 270
270 numeral patchWelcome to Troop 270.

Troop 270 has a long legacy.  While Troop 270 has only been around for a bit over 60 years, it's roots date back over 80.  From 1928 to 1932, Charles Eby led a group of 12 boys in an organization modeled after the Boy Scouts of America. In 1932, the boys, now under the leadership of Ross Smith, recruited the Thurmont Lions Club to sponsor a BSA troop and Troop 11 was chartered.  The troop became inactive during World War II and was revived in 1946 during a national reorganization of the BSA in which Troop 11 became Troop 270.  Throughout the years however, the troop has continuously been sponsored by the Thurmont Lions Club. In 1956, the Scoutmaster designed and had built the only privately owned Scout building in the council; it is owned by Thurmont Scouting, Inc., a non-profit dedicated to the ideals of all scouting groups.

Troop 270 is one of the most active BSA Troops in the Frederick County area and has a program designed to keep any Scout busy! Some of these activities include, but by no means are limited to; backpacking, bicycle touring, camping, caving, hiking, mountain biking, rafting, rappelling, rock climbing, sailing, scuba diving, skiing and snowboarding. These are just a few of the things that Troop 270 does!

There is a lot of information and answers to many questions here on the Troop's Web site.  Feel free to read through it and bring any questions you have to the Scoutmaster.  Also while you are here, if you are a Troop 270 Scout or parent of a Scout, please register on the Web site.  Once your registration is verified, you will be given access to more information and also have the ability to write your own articles to be posted here on the Web site!

Current Curiosities
Everyone that watches any TV once in a while has probably heard of Mike Rowe of "Dirty Jobs" TV show fame.  What you might not know is that he is an Eagle Scout.  This month a dad wrote to him and asked if he would write his son and try to motivate him in Scouting.  His answer is not what one would have expected.  Read it here: http://blogs.discovery.com/mike_rowe_answers/2008/11/mike-offers-a-p.html
